Cooper football falls to St. John in non-district affair

THE WOODLANDS, Texas- The John Cooper School dropped to 1-2 on the young football season with a tough 63-14 loss to tradition-rich St. John’s last Saturday afternoon at Cooper High School.

Michael Gerbert hit Matt Milano with a 24-yard touchdown pass with 10:12 left in the first quarter and Alex Farley added the extra-point to tie the game at 7-7.

But St. John’s scored five straight touchdowns to grab a commanding 42-7 lead at halftime. Cooper’s lone second-half touchdown came on Andrew Coleman’s 15- yard scoring run. Farley tacked on the extra-point.

Cooper finished with 388 total yards, including 244 passing yards from Gerber, who was 18-of-40 with three interceptions and a touchdown.

Coleman rushed 13 times for 100 yards, while Sam Hodges, Milano and Kevin Henry all had two receptions in the game.

St. John’s finished the contest with 441 total yards, 377 coming on the ground.
