November is ‘Hunger & Homeless Awareness’ Month, programs planned in county

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas - November is Hunger & Homeless Awareness Month and multiple events are taking place right here in Montgomery County as part of this important campaign! The Montgomery County Homeless Coalition announces the following events as opportunities for local city and county officials and Montgomery County citizens to understand the problems and become part of the solution for homelessness in Montgomery County, Texas.

Tuesday, November 11th – “Picture This” Youth Photo Exhibit (open to the public)

Opening Reception: November 11, 2014 5:30-7:00pm, Conroe City Hall (300 W. Davis Street)

The “Through Their Eyes” screening will be at 6:30pm.

Thursday, November 13th – Homelessness Panel Discussion (open to the public)

Topic: Current Challenges of Homelessness in the City of Conroe & Montgomery County

5:30 pm – 7:00 pm, Conroe Chamber of Commerce (505 W. Davis Street)

Panel Members: Diane Pyles, Housing Authority; Dr. Joanne Ducharme, Director of Montgomery County Community Development; Jeff Christy, Deputy Chief of Conroe Police Department; Rodney Poole, Downtown Merchants Association; Nancy Heintz, President of the Montgomery County Homeless Coalition, Capt. Karen Twinney, Salvation Army, and a Representative from Tri-County. Moderator: Tyler Dunman, Assistant District Attorney.

Wednesday, November 19th – Empty Bowls Lunch (open to the public)

Conroe Tower, Top Floor, 300 W. David Street, 11:30 am – 1:00 pm

This simple meal of soup, bread, and water is $5.oo per person. Servers to include: Wayne Mack, Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace, James Noack, Pct. 3 Commissioner, Brett Ligon, District Attorney, among others. Also, beautiful handmade bowls created by students at Lone Star College-Montgomery and local artists will be available for purchase. All proceeds of this event will help underwrite efforts of the Homeless Coalition to educate and provide community awareness.

Thursday, November 20th – Montgomery County Homeless Coalition Monthly Meeting

Conroe Chamber of Commerce (505 W. Davis Street), 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm

Join us for our monthly event and to meet the agencies and ministries who do the daily work to prevent and end homelessness in and around Montgomery County.

Nancy Heintz: “We are very excited about the homelessness events happening this month. We hope that the city and county officials and the citizens will come out to these events to learn more about the issues facing Montgomery County and how they can be a part of the solution.”
