MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas - With the holiday shopping season approaching, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office would like to provide some seasonal safety tips for individuals shopping this upcoming season:

Always lock your motor vehicle, whether at a store or at home.

Never leave valuables or a purse in sight inside of your vehicle unattended. If you have to store them in a vehicle unattended, put them in the trunk, in a hidden storage space, and if possible store them before you get to your destination.

When possible, avoid driving and shopping alone or at night.

If you shop at night, park in a well-lit area.

Always pay attention and be aware of your surroundings, especially when approaching your vehicle.

Park as close as you can to your destination and take notice of where you park your vehicle.

Never leave your car unoccupied with the motor running or with children inside. • When shopping in crowded stores and malls, keep track of your cellphone, purse, wallet, and purchases.

Carry your purse close to your body. Do not leave your purse in a shopping cart, in a stroller, or place it on top of your vehicle.

Have your keys in your hand when you approach your vehicle.

If you witness or see any suspicious activity, please contact the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office or the local law enforcement provider.
