THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- ‘Birds of a feather, flock together,’ and there’s no thicker flock than The Woodlands/ Spring area,Tx. Foodie Club Facebook group. Their love of food transcends even their competitive spirit. Comprised of restaurant owners, chefs, and food bloggers, everything is laid out on the table with this group of food aficionados, and very little gets swept underneath it. Thus this story came to light…

RC's NYC Pizza & Pasta comes to the aid of competitor

The newest entry into The Woodlands Pizza wars, Gino’s East, was in the process of training its staff for its grand opening when their large pizza dough mixer malfunctioned. Without the aid of their Hobart mixer, they would be unable to make dough in commercial quantities.According to those in the pizza business, the repair work is neither fast nor cheap. The new restaurant was in jeopardy of facing days of downtime, and missing their grand opening date.

Phil Nicosia, the owner of Pallotta’s Italian Grill relayed the story.

“They (Gino’s East) were having issues with their dough mixer and RC (RC Gallegos, the owner of RC’s NYC Pizza & Pasta) let them come over to his place and borrow his mixer to prep their dough. He also set them up with local vendors and repair guys to help with the issues they had. I gotta say, that is pretty awesome of him! Whether he serves deep dish pizza or not, they are direct competition and he stepped up and helped them out of a huge bind. That’s what supporting local and being a good business person is all about! Hats off to RC!

In truth, pizzerias are as diverse as diners, with different crusts, sauces, and toppings. It’s like comparing apples and oranges. They’re both good for you, just different, and sometimes you want an apple, and other times you want an orange. That’s what the pizza business in The Woodlands has become...a diverse food industry catering to the many different palates, and going to extraordinary means to differentiate themselves. Sometimes you want New York style pizza, and sometimes you want Chicago. Some days you want deep dish, other times you want thick crust, and so on. Needless to say, there’s a large enough variety of pizza, and enough variety in customers, to go around.

“To me, this is a great example of the type of person we’re proud to have as a WAF (Woodlands Area Foodie) member,” said Nicosia. “RC’s Pizza is the type of business that is a valuable member of the community; if you’ve not been lately, to enjoy a great NYC-style pizza and thank RC for doing what he does.”

Depending on your mood, drop by RC’s NYC Pizza or the new Gino’s East, and enjoy the wide variety of pizza The Woodlands has to offer.
