THE WOODLANDS, Texas - The South Montgomery County YMCA Early Childhood Development Center, which opened in 1986, has been refurbished. The center celebrated with a reception and reunion earlier in the month to show off their “New Look”. Guests included current and former staff, volunteers, parents and students. Many of the children currently enrolled are 2nd generation. The child care staff is experienced and constant with staff tenure ranging from 8 – 25 years. Many of the children currently enrolled are 2nd generation.

In addition to the wide open spaces, bright colors, new paint, flooring, furniture, special themed areas for the kids to read, etc . . . the Center is offering additional enrichment opportunities including Spanish classes, provided by Learning Spark, and Y Swim safety/recreational swim and P.E Classes with Y Staff, twice a week. The new enrichment classes, for ages 3 and older, are added value and is included in the monthly fee.

The YMCA Early Childhood Development Center program provides enriching experiences which facilitate a child’s cognitive, social, physical and emotional growth. We strive to meet the developmental needs and temperament of each individual child by working in partnership with families. YMCA Early Childhood Development programs, licensed by the State of Texas, provide curriculum focused on education, leadership and character development.

With so many demands on today’s families, parents need all the support they can get. That’s why child care at the Y is about more than looking after kids. It’s about nurturing their development by providing a safe place to learn foundational skills, develop healthy, trusting relationships and build self-reliance through the Y vales of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith. The Y is so much more than a “Place to Stay”. It is a Place to Play. It is a Place for All Children to Learn, Grow and Thrive.

In addition to the high level of YMCA standards and state licensing requirements, the South Montgomery County YMCA Pre-K program has been recognized as Texas School Ready. TSR has helped thousands of children across the state of Texas be more prepared for success in kindergarten and beyond.

Developed by the Children’s Learning Institute at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, TSR is an innovative, research proven early education program approach that combines a research-based state-adopted curriculum with professional development and coaching for preschool teachers. The teachers are provided virtual and on site coaching and the tools to help them learn more about each child’s specific instructional needs and how to support him or her using engaging lessons and activities. TSR is an example of a high quality early education program that has been proven to help children be more prepared for school.
