THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Most adults are familiar with the challenge of keeping New Year’s resolutions to stay healthy – and that goal may be even more difficult for children and teens.

To help families achieve their goals, The Woodlands Children’s Museum is hosting a week-long program called “Get Fit February.”

The museum, located at 4775 W. Panther Creek Drive, Suite 280, has a number of informative presentations and fun activities planned around boosting healthy lifestyles from Feb. 17 to 21.

The programs include:

“Heart Healthy Habits” presented by Dr. Matthew Powellson from Woodlands Family Practice from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 17.

Get Fit with Karate by United Studios of Self Defense from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18.

Get fit with Happy Family Brands by Jessica Ligon from 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Feb. 18.

Kids in the Kitchen by Junior League from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19.

Exercise fun with Gold’s Gym from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19.

Bollywood Dancing with Tripiti from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 20.

Special presentation by First Choice Ambulance and Josh “the Germ” from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20.

NutriMen, crusaders in the war against hazardous food and habitual inactivity, from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 21.

The museum is guided by the “We Can!” (Ways to Enhance Children's Activity and Nutrition) effort -- a national movement designed to give parents, caregivers, and entire communities a way to help children 8 to 13 years old and their parents stay at a healthy weight.

The museum is part of the Museum on the Move and Good to Grow national health initiatives as well.

“We want to educate and empower children and their families when it comes to health and fitness,” the museum’s executive director Angela Colton said. “This fun week of work-outs and informative presentations will give families fun and easy alternative ideas on how to stay healthy all year round.”

Get Fit February events are included in the cost of museum admission of $5 per person. Check the museum’s online calendar, www.woodlandschildrensmuseum.org or call 281-465-0955, for up-to-date information.
