MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas - Marion Fischer has recently received the Houston Texans Community Quarterback Grand Prize Award in recognition of her volunteerism with the Montgomery County Women’s Center.

Houston Texans Community Quarterback Award is a partnership with United Way of Greater Houston and sponsored by BHP Billiton Petroleum that rewards the spirit of volunteers who go above and beyond to give back to the community. As the Grand Prize winner, Fischer was presented with $50,000 for the non-profit organization.

Marion Fischer serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Montgomery County Women’s Center (MCWC). MCWC, which is served by United Way, has been serving the needs of victims of family violence, sexual assault or abuse and stalking from Montgomery County and surrounding counties since 1982. The primary program areas in which services are provided to clients are: (a) residential programs including emergency shelter and transitional housing; (b) community educational outreach; (c) legal services; (d) domestic violence and sexual assault advocacy; and (e) individual counseling and support groups. MCWC also offers a 24-hour crisis hotline. All services are provided at no cost with the exception of transitional housing.

At the Dec. 21, 2014 Houston Texans vs. Baltimore Ravens game, Fischer was presented with the $50,000 check for MCWC by Jamey Rootes, President of Houston Texans, Anne Neeson, Vice President of Donor Relations for United Way of Greater Houston, and Tim Cutt, President of BHP Billiton Petroleum. The presentation was shown on the big screen at the stadium during the game.

As part of her nomination for the award, it was noted that during Marion Fischer’s 30 years of advocacy in the field of domestic violence, she has directly or indirectly impacted the lives of thousands of survivors and their children.

“Marion has been instrumental in raising over $6,000,000 which has enabled our agency to establish new programs, enhance existing ones and enrich the lives of survivors in our community,” said Sarah Raleigh, President and CEO of MCWC. “With her boundless energy, compassion for those in need and a results driven approach, she has an infectious can do attitude and willingness to step outside of her comfort zone for the greater good of the agency. It is our privilege to have nominated Marion Fischer as the ‘Quarterback’ of the Montgomery County Women’s Center.”

Fischer added, “I am thrilled to receive this award. The Houston Texans, BHP Billiton and the United Way have been wonderful and I'm so proud that these organizations presented the $50,000 to the Montgomery County Women's Center. The whole event touched my heart."

Duane Brown, Houston Texans Offensive Tackle and spokesperson for the Houston Texans Community Quarterback Grand Prize Award, noted, “Leadership in the community is huge. To have someone there, looking outside of themselves to make more of a commitment to everyone else, it means everything. It’s someone who can inspire others and motivate others to be positive examples.”
