Cooper writers, artists receive 23 Gold Key Awards to move on in National Scholastic Art and Writing

THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Middle and Upper School students again had a very strong presence in the regional level adjudication of the 90th Annual Scholastic Art and Writing Awards competition. Students are awarded Gold Key, Silver Key and Honorable Mentions for their work and students who earn Gold Key awards move on to the national level of the competition.

In writing, senior Sanjana Ramesh Babu won nine awards; five honorable mentions, three Silver Key awards and a Gold Key for her writing portfolio entitled "Lost." Senior Sara Valderrama won five total awards; two honorable mentions, a Silver Key award and two Gold Key awards for her poetry, "Ostrich-Men" and "If nothing else." Sophomore Sadie Robb won a Gold Key in the Flash Fiction category for her piece entitled "Tire."

Cooper students were also awarded 85 recognitions in the visual arts - 19 Gold, 24 Silver and 42 Honorable Mentions out of a total of 221 awarded to public and private schools in Texas. Awarded Gold Key awards and moving on in competition are Middle School students Rhyma Asim (photography) and Emily Chandler (jewelry) and Upper School students Ramsha Asim (photography), Meiya Cho (drawing and illustration), Jenna Hill (photography), Theo Jeremiah (jewelry), Grace Lawson (photography), Peri Monroe (photography), Matthew Mussalli (sculpture), Heather Scotti (photography), Sydney Shannon (design), Natalie Sos (ceramics and glass), Gina Valderrama (painting), Brandon Wohlfarth (art portfolio), Kayley Wood (photography) and Douglas Ziman (sculpture).
