THE WOODLANDS, Texas - In working out of my house for over two decades, my household duties have been many, but there is one area that I am in constant need of assistance with...appliance repair. Just the other day, the refrigerator decided to stop working and for the life of me I couldn't figure out what was wrong.

So, I looked high and low, and in the Woodlands Online business section, I came across a company called Complete Appliance Repair. What followed was a lot more than the owner, Bert Young fixing the stubborn fridge. What I found was a genuine hard working human being in total support of his wife (Carol), who suffers from Invasive Lobular Carcinoma. A slow growing, yet hard to get rid of cancer.

Bert's visit turned into an afternoon of sheer enjoyment. If you enjoy being around passionate people, you would love talking to this man describe how his business came to be and how hard he works in an effort to pay for his wife's cancer treatments.

Bert has been in the appliance business for over 20 years to include three and a half years in The Woodlands where he and Carol are proud to call home.

Carol was diagnosed last May. On June 23 and July 24, she had a procedure done to try and remove the cancer with lumpectomies to no avail. From August through October, she had aggressive chemotherapy that did shrink the tumors, and on December 15 had a bilateral mastectomy. She still has two more procedures to go in the next few months and must take tamoxifen daily for the years to come in an effort to block the hormones that feed the cancer.

Before her diagnosis, Carol had been a full time EKG Technician. She interpreted EKG tracings for eCardio Diagnostics and has just earned her national credentials in CRAT (Certified Rhythm Analysis Technician).

Although Carol has insurance, the co-pays and deductible have wiped out Bert and Carol financially.

"We got so far behind because Carol was not able to work full time." Bert said. "Every month from the diagnosis date there was some kind of surgery or chemotherapy making it physically impossible for Carol to work every day."

Bert can safely be described as a tough, hard working blue collar man. After high school, he enlisted in the Army. Upon exiting the Army he became involved with appliance repair as he worked for a friend with whom owned a business that needed some help.

This is not the type of man that is cozy with asking for help. However, I asked Bert if there was something we could do.

"Ya know, Doug. Carol and I have worked so hard and we are so used to fending for ourselves. Then, the love of my life was thrown a curve ball and we've been struggling to just try to stay ahead and also pay for the treatments Carol needs. The feeling that I can not pay for all of the treatments she needs really eats at my insides". Bert continued...

"In the middle of all of this we celebrated our anniversary. Doug, it is beyond my ability to describe the love I have for Carol. I love her with all of my heart."

Bert Young is a very proud and very in love man. To ask us to please recommend his appliance business so he can continue to try and help pay for Carol's treatments was a tough thing for him to do.

If anyone out there needs any assistance with appliances in and around the house, I give you Complete Appliance Repair, 832-562-9013 call or text, or Email: cbp2006@juno.com. You'll be helping some real good people.

When Bert left our house, these were his last words...

"Cancer has the power to do many things BUT IT CANNOT destroy our faith in God, our love and commitment to each other and the love of family."
