THE WOODLANDS, Texas - The Woodlands Area Economic Development Partnership (EDP) recently concluded its annual employee count survey of local non-retail employers. Companies with 100 or more employees are surveyed each year to determine job growth trends in the area.

As part of the services the EDP provides to the community, the Partnership compiles an annual report of top non-retail employers in The Woodlands and surrounding areas. In addition to providing information on which companies are growing, the EDP also looks at growth trends in various business sectors including Banking, Distribution/Transportation, Education, Energy, Healthcare, Hospitality, Life Science, Professional/Specialty Services and Public Agencies.

According to Gil Staley, CEO of The Partnership, “This information benefits not only local companies, but it is also the most requested data from employers who are considering relocating to this area. Currently there are 65 companies in The Woodlands Area who employ more than 100 people. Three of our major employers are Fortune 500 Headquarters.”

The 2014 job count, once again, revealed encouraging news for The Woodlands Area. Employee numbers for the larger companies in January of 2015 show to be up by more than 1500 jobs from 2013. This year’s tally shows that approximately 30,000 people are employed by major, non-retail companies.

“Over the last decade we have seen our major employers continue to build jobs each and every year,” says Staley. He added, “After reviewing the companies with job gains, we found that energy continues to lead job growth as the top business sector, followed by healthcare.”

Significant contributors to our job growth were two of our Fortune 500 headquarters, Anadarko Petroleum Corp. and CB&I.

Staley concluded, “As we move forward in 2015, we remain optimistic for continued job growth. Our two largest business sectors, energy and healthcare are poised for new jobs. Two new major acute care hospitals are under construction, Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital and Texas Children’s Hospital. In addition, ExxonMobil has signed leases for approximately 478,000 square feet, consisting of an entire office building and a portion of a second office building at Hughes Landing, a 66-acre mixed-use development situated on 200-acre Lake Woodlands.”
