Here's a recap of this weekend's season-opening high school baseball action:

War Eagles sweep through War Eagle Classic

CONROE, Texas - The Oak Ridge War Eagles baseball team got off on the right track to start the 2015 season. Oak Ridge went 3-0 in the War Eagle Classic, scoring 25 runs, including 13 in the season opener versus Caney Creek.

Durbin Feltman pitched five-innings of shutout baseball, allowing just one hit and striking out 11 in a 13-0 win over Caney Creek in game one.

In game two against Huffman Hargraves, Oak Ridge was down 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth until, Luken Baker smacked a two-run homerun to center-field to tie the game at 4-4. Bryce Foley then hit a two-run double to left-field, scoring Tyler Hicks and Zach Rollins to give Oak Ridge a 6-4 lead. The War Eagles would plate one more run to win 7-4.

In game three versus St. Thomas, Riley McKnight went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Luken Baker went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the 5-1 victory. Starting pitcher Drew Mesecher went six-innings giving up just two hits, no earned runs, while striking out seven.

Oak Ridge (3-0) will travel to Arlington this weekend to compete in the Arlington Tyde Tournament at Arlington Martin High School.

Highlanders go 4-1 in TWHS Varsity Tournament

THE WOODLANDS, Texas - The Woodlands Highlanders started off hot in The Woodlands Varsity Tournament this past weekend, going 4-0, before dropping the finale, 4-1 to Klein Oak.

The Highlanders (4-1) got wins over George Ranch (7-4), Kinkaid (8-4), Foster (10-4), and Klein Collins (9-0).

Zach Gartner led the way for the Highlanders in game one over George Ranch going 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored.

In game two, Chris Andritsos went 2-for-4 with 2-RBI’s and two runs scored and starting pitcher Devin Fontenot struck out eight over five-innings pitched, giving up just one earned run in the win over Kinkaid.

In game three vs. Foster, the Highlanders bats got going early cranking out six runs in the first three innings, as Zach Gartner had two more RBI’s for the Highlanders in the 10-4 win.

In game four versus Klein Collins, Chris Andritsos got the start on the mound and went five-innings, allowing just one hit, no runs, while striking out eight. The Highlanders bats stayed red-hot as Jarred Miles went 2-for-3 with 3-RBI’s at the plate in the 9-0 win.

The Woodlands will travel to take part in the Ft. Bend Tournament, March 5-7.

College Park goes 2-1 in Georgetown Tournament

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The College Park Cavaliers went 2-1 in the Georgetown tournament this past weekend.

The Cavaliers (2-1) opened with a 10-3 win over Flower Mound Marcus as Nate Fisbeck and Noah Vaughn combined to go 3-for-8 at the plate with 5-RBI’s and three runs scored in season opening win.

In game two, College Park had a 3-2 lead going into the top of the sixth inning, when Georgetown got the tying run on a squeeze play, tying the game 3-3. The game went into the eighth inning when Georgetown hit a two-out, 2-RBI triple to left-field to take a 5-3 lead. Georgetown would push one more across the plate on a throwing error to win 6-3.

The Cavaliers would rebound in the final game of the tournament with a 6-1 win over East View. Aaron Perkins went 3-for-3 at the plate and Nick Pischulla went six-innings, allowing just one earned run and striking out three in the win.

College Park will host the 13th annual Ferrell Classic March 5-7 and face Huntsville, Cy-Woods and Cy-Falls during tournament play.
