THE WOODLANDS, Texas - The Woodlands Republican Women’s “Belles With Boots” Texas Independence Day celebration provided food, fun, and funds, for their many goals and philanthropic causes. The organization is one of several throughout the county formed to encourage women to take an active role in the political process, and stay informed on issues of concern.

“It’s an excellent way to keep our members informed on political issues,” said board member, Shelley Rollins, the publicity chair for The Woodlands Republican Women. “The organization supports state and national political issues and races, but not local primary races. We don’t get involved when two Republican candidates are running against each other.”

Their goal is to promote an awareness of the ideals of good government by encouraging active participation and working for the election of local, state, and national Republican candidates, and to foster loyalty to the Republican Party.

In a posted message, the 2015 President of The Woodlands Republican Women, Amy Van Horn, shared her purpose for involvement…

“I first joined a Republican Women’s Club 30 years ago because I went to vote and realized that I was not familiar with many of the names on the ballot. The involvement with the clubs has given me the opportunity to meet and learn about the candidates and the elected officials,” posted Van Horn. “Volunteering with campaigns and conventions has given me good knowledge about how the county, state and federal election process works and the relevance of all of our votes. The friendships I have made over the years with the strongest women in town have been great. I am looking forward to my tenure as president for the next two years.”

Van Horn’s 2015 goal is to grow the membership and get members out into the community with voter registration, education, civic involvement, and fundraising for Republican candidates.

The Woodlands Republican Women chapter is part of the Texas Federation of Republican Women (TFRW), which has over 10,000 members across the state in 164 local chapters. Other Montgomery County chapters include: East Montgomery County, the city of Montgomery, the Lake Conroe area which meets at April Sound, and another at Bentwater on the north end of the lake. Magnolia is currently in the process of forming a chapter.

The Woodlands Republican Women meet the second Wednesday of each month at 11:00 a.m. Their meeting location is Landry’s located at 12121 Lake Robbins Drive (77380). Lunch is $20 payable at the door. RSVPs are requested in advance. Please RSVP to Ann Herbek at aherbek814@att. net
