MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas - On Saturday, April 11, show your love and support for the homeless animals of Montgomery County with the first annual Operation Pets Alive Rescue Ride!

Join Operation Pets Alive on April 11 to raise funds to help shelter animals get a second chance at life.

Operation Pets Alive is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, no-kill volunteer organization in Montgomery County. OPA promotes a no-kill community for homeless animals through advocacy and community-supported programs. The mission at OPA is to raise community awareness in hopes to reduce the number of dogs and cats that enter the shelters, while increasing the number of dogs and cats that leave the shelters. OPA executes this mission with five featured programs: Flight for Life, Trap, Neuter Return, (TNR), Adoption Events, Fostering, and Targeted Spay/Neuter.

The Flight for Life program will be featured at the Rescue Ride. Although there is an extensive amount of shelter animals in Texas, specifically in Montgomery County, states up north often have under crowded shelters. Since homeless animals will have a better chance of being adopted in other states, OPA organizes “rescue flights” for “at risk” homeless dogs in the county. OPA has partnerships with shelters in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Colorado. The dogs are then boarded on a plane where they will have a second chance at life, and a higher probability of getting adopted by a loving family.

“We put anywhere from 25 to 50 dogs, and possibly cats, on a plane and they go to shelters up north,” said OPA volunteer Dyan DeGruy. “There is a 99% success rate of adoption.”

On April 11, start the day by joining the volunteers of OPA at the Flight for Life at the Conroe Executive Airport at 10am. Send the shelter animals off right as they head to other parts of the country where adoptable animals are in high demand compared to Montgomery County. Then, at 11am, motorcyclists can begin the scenic 75-100 mile motorcycle ride to the Rescue Ride After Party at Papa’s on the Lake from 1-5pm! Don’t ride a motorcycle? No worries! Enjoy the Flight for Life and then head on over to the family-friendly after party.

At Papa’s on the Lake, located at 14632 Texas 105 in Montgomery, mingle with friends and family while enjoying live music, delicious barbeque, a 50/50 raffle, silent auction, vendors, and even the opportunity to adopt a fur-ever friend.

Funds raised at the OPA Rescue Ride will benefit all facets of the organization.

“The money raised will help these animals get a second chance at life,” said DeGruy. “If we have the money to pay for their vetting, put them on flights, and feed them, we are able to pull animals out of the shelters. We would love to raise $20,000, and we are also looking for more sponsors, vendors, and donations for the silent auction.

For attendees who wish to participate in the motorcycle ride from the Conroe Executive Airport to the after party, tickets are $25. Tickets to the after party are only $15. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time here or at the link provided below.

For DeGruy, the most rewarding part of being a volunteer for Operation Pets Alive is hearing about all of the wonderful adoption stories.

“Just seeing the pictures and responses from those that adopt out and seeing the happy lives that these animals are living now is amazing.”

On April 11, come join the fun for the first annual Operation Pets Alive Rescue Ride while supporting homeless animals in Montgomery County who deserve a second chance.
