Mellisa Ray named named President of NICA of Texas

THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Celebrating 22 years in business, The Woodlands resident Mellisa Ray of Mellisa Ray Insurance Agency, was recently named the incoming President of the Nationwide Independent Insurance Contractors Association (NIICA) of Texas. Mellisa’s years of service, dedication to community organizations and commitment to her clients as a principal agent, also earned her the Nationwide Insurance Texas Community Service Agent Award for 2014. Of 200 principal agents in the state of Texas, only one agent receives this award.

“I am very excited to be given the responsibility as president of the NIICA of Texas. It is my time to give back to my fellow agents and I am looking forward to that,” said Mellisa Ray. “As far as being awarded the Nationwide Insurance Community Service Agent of the Year, I am so honored to be part of a community that not only helped me grow my business, but generously supports meaningful organizations that make a difference.”

As a new agent Mellisa was the first female ‘scratch’ Nationwide Insurance Agent in the state of Texas to achieve career independent contractor status, meaning she did not receive an existing book of business to start. She built the Mellisa Ray Insurance Agency from zero business to a large agency.

Mellisa graduated from Michigan State University with a BA in Marketing and later received her LUTCF (Life Underwriters Training Council Fellow) designation in 1997. In addition Mellisa has received extensive industry training and several business related courses at Rice University. Prior to opening her insurance agency 22 years ago, Mellisa was Residential Marketing Manager for The Woodlands Corporation.

A Woodlands resident since 1989, Mellisa is a member of The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce, Houston Association of Realtors, The Woodlands Rotary Club, the Independent Insurance Agents Houston and Texas, and the Professional Insurance Agents of Texas.
