THE WOODLANDS, Texas – The Woodlands Township will participate in the Great American Cleanup with Keep Texas Beautiful and communities across the nation, targeting litter on pathways, waterways and natural areas during the Earth Day GreenUp on Saturday, March 28, 2015.

Neighborhoods, clubs, scouts, church groups, schools, families and individuals are the heart and hands of the stewardship project according to Lynne Aldrich, manager of the Environmental Services Department at The Woodlands Township. “The GreenUp is all about community pride. The event spotlights the value of volunteerism, personal action and responsibility in maintaining a healthy, vibrant community,” she said.

Walk-up registration is welcome on March 28, 2015, at check-in from 8 to 10 a.m. at a designated park in each village. All participants will receive gloves, bags, instructions and an assigned pick-up area.

Following the cleanup, the entire community is invited to celebrate from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Northshore Park, 2505 Lake Woodlands Drive. The event will feature the first appearance in The Woodlands of the Austin Bike Zoo. The Bike Zoo combines the simplicity of pedal-power with the animation of puppets.

On the event stage, blending the best of top 40 country hits with original music, the Buck Yeager Band will perform a free concert. Booths will spotlight outdoor activities from kayaking to biking, hiking and geocaching. Free face painting and interactive displays will highlight nature along with ways to minimize waste. Guests will be invited to put themselves in the picture at the Monarch Waystation.

Volunteers will receive free pizza, drinks and an event T-shirt, while supplies last. Food tickets will be available for purchase by the general public.
