KATY, Texas -- Ben Perry and The Woodlands High School lacrosse team traveled to Katy and conquered South District foe Seven Lakes Spartans (8-3, 4-3), 17-4 in what turned out to be the Highlanders best effort of the young season.

Perry, a senior found twine three times and dished out an assist as the young, rebuilding 2015 version of the Highlanders is starting to learn how to play as a team.

As has been The Woodlands (7-0, 5-0) modus operandi thus far in the season, they struggled early having to play man down constantly due to careless penalties. Leading just 4-2 after the first quarter, The Woodlands were able to pull it together in the second stanza distancing themselves from the Spartans taking a 9-3 lead by halftime.

Coach Keith Tintle's halftime speech must have reached his young charges as the Highlanders starting banging in shots early in the third quarter and for all intents and purposes the contest was over shortly thereafter.

Tintle wasn't so quick to proclaim team excellence following the game...

"This was a decent game for our team because we haven't exactly been lighting up the scoreboard this season. We proved to ourselves that when we do the things we need to do on offense and play together, it can all come together."

When asked if he would call this game a springboard to go deep in the THSLL (Texas High School Lacrosse League) playoffs later on in the season, he was guarded...

"Look, we're so young... A lot of these guys were playing junior high school ball just last summer. Although we played better tonight than we have been playing, we are just growing together a team. If we don't continue to improve, we'll get our jocks handed to us real quick if we rest on false laurels. We travel to the hotbed of Texas lacrosse (DFW area) to take on #2 Highland Park and #6 Southlake this weekend. We'll see if we can even hang around with the best by Sunday night."

Along with Perry, Gus Pinsoneault scored three times. Connor Binney, Brentley Kalata and Nick Rauchle tallied twice each. Ramsey McCreary, Quinn Binney, Matt Mahoney, Will Skipworth and Tyler Billig added a goal apiece.

Jonny Daniels, Christian Starcke, Lucas Montes, Jackson Shearer and Grant Murphy played lock down defense all game long and netminders, AJ Thorpe and Gunnar Luckoski combined for six saves.

Mahoney, Austin Finta and Quinn Binney combined to win 11 face offs.

The Woodlands plays at Highland Park on Saturday at 1pm and Southlake on Sunday at noon.
