Precinct 2 to benefit from road bonds in May 9 Election

THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Residents of Montgomery County Precinct 2 who have experienced growing traffic issues have a countywide election where the precinct’s share of a $350 million road bond package will be on the ballot to look forward to. According to proponents, approval of the upcoming 2015 road bonds will go a long way toward improving mobility and safety throughout out Montgomery County ? investing $350 million on a total of 77 much-needed projects to keep Montgomery County moving.

Montgomery County Precinct 2 Commissioner Charlie Riley was one of the four commissioners who unanimously approved for the bond issue to be put before the voters. “The county is growing at an unprecedented rate, and major expansions and road projects are an essential part of our job in order for the county to keep up with this rate.” Riley said.

The projects on the bonds were determined by precinct residents, the precinct commissioners, private engineering firms and other experts. Assisted by a citizens committee, Montgomery County Commissioners Court took the original number of proposed projects – well over 100 – and determined the 77 essential projects that could, based on the county’s recent and projected growth, be performed in a bond amount that would not include an increase in taxes.

For Precinct 2, the top five road improvement projects are:


rehabilitation or resurfacing of more than a dozen at-risk roads to enhance safety, including Hardin Store, Dobbin Huffsmith and Rabon Chapel, among others;

turn lanes to be added to SH 242 at Gosling Road and Greenbridge Drive as well at FM 1488 and Kuykendahl;

leverage a partnership with Tx-DOT by investing $5 million to advance an overpass on FM 1774 at the railroad tracks;

widen Fish Creek Thoroughfare to four-lanes between FM 1488 and FM 2854; and

funding for an extension of Nichols Sawmill, expansion of Research Forest Drive to four lanes and the extension of Woodlands Parkway as well as a Magnolia Bypass.
