THE WOODLANDS, Texas – This Good Friday and Easter Weekend, The Woodlands United Methodist Church will offer residents four distinct worship opportunities for the first time in the church’s history.

The Woodlands UMC's Traditional Service is a worship experience featuring a full choir and orchestra and meets in the sanctuary of the main building, located at 2200 Lake Woodlands Drive. Good Friday services on April 3 will take place at Noon and 5:00 p.m. in the church’s Robb Chapel and will feature Holy Communion. On Easter Sunday, April 5, there will be Traditional Services in the main sanctuary at 8:00, 9:30, and 11:00 a.m. as well as 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. in Robb Chapel.

“Our Traditional Service has been a standard in The Woodlands community for over 35 years now,” says Susan Kent, Pastor of Local Missions and Women’s Ministry at The Woodlands UMC. “If someone is looking to celebrate Jesus’ resurrection the way generations before them have, it’s the service for them.”

The Woodlands UMC will also offer two worship opportunities that have a more modern feel, to varying degrees.

Harvest Worship, a casual, contemporary service that still features liturgical elements, will host Good Friday worship for the first time in its brand new Harvest Worship Center in the church’s main building at 7:00 p.m. On Easter Sunday, it will gather at 8:00, 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. Also hosting its first Good Friday and Easter in a new space — a renovated warehouse located at 9201 Grogan’s Mill — is Loft Worship. This modern service features energetic music, cutting-edge media and live drama. Good Friday worship will be at 7:00 p.m. It will offer Easter worship both on Saturday, April 4 at 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 5 at 9:30 and 11:00 a.m.

“We often refer to Loft Worship as ‘the church of last resort’,” says Rob Renfroe, The Woodlands UMC’s Pastor of Discipleship. “It’s a place where it’s ok to bring questions, doubts or a troubled past. Everyone is welcome.” Lastly, the church will also have a Children’s Easter Service on Saturday, April 4 at 3:00 p.m. in the main building. Following age-appropriate songs and stories, everyone will move out onto a fountain plaza for interactive displays designed to spark excitement as it presents a message of hope to families.

While the church’s nursery will be open during Saturday night and Sunday services and goes up to children in Kindergarten, regular Sunday school classes will not be in session.

In anticipation of larger-than-normal crowds, the church will have remote parking in the new Whole Foods parking garage. Buses will constantly transport attendees to and from the church.
