SPRING, Texas - Brandon Parise (left) from The Woodlands area and Daniel Toerner (right) from Magnolia have earned the highest advancement rank the Boy Scouts of America offers - the rank of Eagle Scout.

Parise and Toerner recently received their Eagle Scout designation at a Court of Honor held at St. Edward Catholic Community in Spring, the chartered organization for Troop 1665 which both young men are members. Troop 1665 is led by Scoutmaster John Bowlds and Assistant Scoutmaster Patrick Weisbrod, Sr. Gilbert Duran, Jr. serves as the upcoming Scoutmaster of the troop.

Approximately 6% of all Boy Scouts attain the rank of Eagle Scout, according to 2013 statistics from the Boy Scouts of America.

For his Eagle Scout project, Parise constructed three park benches and a garbage can holder for Harris County Precinct 4 Dennis Johnston Park, part of the Spring Creek Greenway project located in Spring. Toerner’s project included re-striping the parking lot of Northwest Assistance Ministries (NAM), near the intersection of FM 1960 and Kuykendahl according to governmental codes and regulations. NAM is a community-based, non-profit organization whose mission includes “neighbors helping neighbors”.

Parise and Toerner have received numerous accolades during their tenure in Boy Scouts including being members of the Order of the Arrow (the National Honor Society for Boy Scouts), and Brotherhood, the second highest rank of the Order of the Arrow. They have both received the Boy Scouts’ Texas Award and have held the position of Senior Patrol Leader (the top Boy Scout leader of the troop). Both Parise and Toerner have been childhood friends and ranked up from a Cub Scout, Boy Scout to the Eagle Scout rank.
