THE WOODLANDS, Texas - There was no shortage of hats and horses at the 141st running of the Kentucky Derby at GenuWine Tasting Room, complete with mint juleps, a Best Hat Contest, live music, and of course, the televised ‘Run for the Roses.’

Plenty of hats, wine, and a televised showing of the Kentucky Derby.

Never one...er, two, to miss an opportunity for a party, co-owners Rhonda Redmon and Barb Salinas, seized the opportunity to host their own Kentucky Derby Party, Saturday, May 2, from 4 - 6 p.m. A $15 ticket ($25 per couple) included either a glass of one of their boutique wines, or a craft beer, and delicious ‘lite bites.’

“I am so ready for the Kentucky derby party today,” said Redmon. “...Love my hats.”

The derby didn’t disappoint as American Pharoah, trained by the legendary Bob Baffert, and ridden by equally famous Victor Espinoza, edged out Firing Line with Gary Stevens aboard, by a length. American Pharoah completed the mile and a quarter in 2:03:02 and paid $7.80 on a $2 bet to win. A closely run race that could see these two vie again for win and place in the second leg of the Triple Crown at the Preakness May 15.
