War Eagles soar past Klein Oak in Game 1 victory

CONROE, Texas - The Oak Ridge War Eagles got a complete game two-hit shutout performance from Durbin Feltman and to go along with 11 hits in a 10-0 playoff victory in six innings over Klein Oak on Thursday night.

Oak Ridge (22-1) was led by Luken Baker who went 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored, and Zach Rollins who went 2-for-3 with two RBI’s and a run scored. Oak Ridge as a team went 11-for-26 at the plate and had five of their 11 hits go for extra bases.

The War Eagles didn’t waste any time offensively, starting the postseason off on the right foot, as they immediately grabbed momentum in the first inning. Michael Lawson doubled down the right field line to score Baker to give Oak Ridge a 1-0 lead. Anthony Smith followed with a line drive double down the left field line, scoring Lawson for a 2-0 lead. Matt Mihalov grounded out in a fielder’s choice that scored Smith for a 3-0 Oak Ridge lead.

Klein Oak couldn’t gather the offense for a rally, as Feltman allowed only two hits in his six innings with one walk and six strikeouts on 98 pitches.

Oak Ridge continued to churn out offense, scoring a run in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively. Anthony Smith hit a ground ball to third base that was turned for a double play by Klein Oak, however Baker scored on the play to give Oak Ridge a 4-0 lead. Rollins’ RBI infield single scored Demarco Thomas in the fifth inning for a 5-0 lead.

The War Eagles were in control and ended it in a run-rule by scoring five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, capped off by a Riley McKnight double to center field on a line drive that scored Rollins and Chase Henderson.

With the win, Oak Ridge takes a 1-0 series lead in the best-of-three Bi-District playoff series with game two on Friday, May 8, at Klein Oak at 7pm.
