MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas - It was a sold-out crowd at the 7th annual “Tea on the Lawn” when over 360 southern ladies donned their finest hats and frocks for this ever-popular luncheon to benefit New Danville.

Held April 24, 2015 at the stately Shepard Hill Estates at 11134 Shepard Hill Rd. in Willis, TX, the 42-acre venue featured a majestic turn-of-the-century-style farmhouse with treasured antiques and lush flower gardens, providing the perfect backdrop for entertaining.

This year’s featured guest speaker was Heather Abbott, the young woman who was standing at the 2013 Boston Marathon finish line when the terrorist bombings went off. Heather had to face an unimaginable decision to amputate her leg. Her amazing story was a living testament to “Boston Strong” – nothing short of courage, determination, and inspiration. New Danville is a master-planned community for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities as well as others who want to develop the skills to become as independent as possible but may need some assistance such as with transportation, money management and other skills training. Funds raised by Tea on the Lawn will help support New Danville’s Life Enrichment and Job Outcome-Based Services (JOBS) programs.

“To have such a successful event this year as we mark New Danville’s tenth anniversary of serving adults with disabilities is very special and truly remarkable,” said Kathy Sanders, president and founder of New Danville. “This year we honored Patti Rivela, who created Tea on the Lawn in 2009. It was a privilege to recognize the time and talents she has given over the years as we have continued to celebrate this successful fundraising event year after year!”

This year’s major underwriters and sponsors included: Richie’s Specialty Pharmacy; Metzger Construction; CenterPoint Energy; Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital; Mel & Cyndy Oller; Sanders Business Consultants, LLC; Spec’s Wine & Spirits; Robichau’s Jewelry; Milstead Automotive; and Mindy Harmon Photography.

This year’s Tea Committee included event chair Cyndy Oller, with Gail Cain, Odette D’Agostino, Nanci Day, Gayle Fisher, Donita Fontenot, Karyn Grace, Kathy Sanders, and Pam Sharp.

New Danville, located at 10951 Shepard Hill in Willis, is the only community concept of its kind that offers an affordable, holistic approach to services by offering adult educational, skills training and vocational services, low-cost rental housing, and job opportunities. It is a special place where they can live, learn, work and grow emotionally, socially and spiritually in a safe, caring environment.
