THE WOODLANDS, Texas – The annual Woodlands Idol, the popular local amateur singing competition that has showcased hundreds of musical hopefuls over the past nine years, has a new host. Donna Wick Public Relations – a.k.a. Wicked Publicity – has taken over the duties previously held by The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce. The move signals a new era for the competition.

Ashley Byers, Director of Special Events for The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce, explains how the change in ownership of the competition proved to be beneficial for all parties involved. “Over the years, this event has gradually changed from a Chamber event focused on promoting our own members to more of a community event,” she said. “To ensure the spirit of the competition kept up its increasing community involvement, the board of directors at the Chamber felt that The Woodlands Idol event would better further thrive under another organization whose reach extended throughout the entire region. Donna Wick Public Relations was, we decided, the perfect fit.”

Donna Wick, CEO of Wicked Publicity, likewise feels that, by becoming the new host/presenter of Woodlands Idol, the entire area and surrounding region will experience a whole new competition event, with greater community involvement, upscaled sponsorship opportunities, larger prizes and higher stakes. “As a Woodlands-based public relations and publicity firm that enjoys strong relationships with area businesses and media outlets, we are excited to host a competition that caters to our core strengths,” she said. “We are prepared to take the fine foundation of the competition that the Chamber has spent nine years building to the next level, one that sees greater opportunities for all of the participants.”

The amateur singing competition, founded in 2007, is based in Montgomery County but has registered applicants from all over the state of Texas. Singers voted through the preliminary and semi-final rounds perform in the final round; the winner takes home a substantial prize package. This year, preliminary rounds are slated to begin in September. For more information, visit www.thewoodlandsidol.com or www.wickedpublicity.com, or contact Sharla Grayson at 832-996-1604.
