MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas - With Montgomery County's inclusion in the State Disaster Declaration by Gov. Greg Abbott, work is under way to open the door for assistance to members of the public affected by severe storms and flooding this May and June.

Today, Montgomery County Emergency Management, Texas Division of Emergency Management and FEMA conducted preliminary damage assessments in Montgomery County as part of that process.

A report of these assessments will be submitted to the governor for him to request that Montgomery County be added to the Presidential Disaster Declaration.

"Early indications from that assessment are that we may very well meet the criteria for Montgomery County being added to a Presidential Disaster Declaration," said County Judge Craig Doyal.

"We are exploring all options to ensure our citizens get the help they need."

In light of the severe weather that began May 4 and continued off and on through June, on June 15 Judge Doyal issued a local disaster declaration and submitted a request for state and federal assistance to the governor.

On June 22, 2015 Montgomery County was added to the State Disaster Declaration by Gov. Greg Abbott.

Montgomery County looks forward to a timely response from the federal government on its being added to a Presidential Disaster Declaration, Judge Doyal said.

If Montgomery County is added to a Presidential Disaster Declaration, the county will work with the state and federal officials to open a local Disaster Recovery Center to help residents identify what resources may be available to help them in their recovery.
