THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Mary Lynn Todaro, affectionately known as Miss Penelope Pickle, is truly one of a kind. She began her career teaching overseas with the military and later became a flight attendant with United Airlines. Although her careers were successful, Todaro found her true calling outside of the professional world. She discovered her passion on long plane journeys when she could let her imagination run wild. Using her knowledge from her careers in service and from the goodness of her heart, Todaro dreamed up Miss Penelope Pickle and her Pickle friends.

These pickles, who reside in Miss Penelope’s Pickle Patch, are anything but ordinary. Firstly, the pickles are purple and fashioned with outfits that reflect their personality. More importantly, each pickle teaches a message that will help guide children into making the right decisions and developing positive character traits. For example, Petunia Pickle, a favorite of Todaro, teaches children to be courteous and kind.

“This came from who I am,” Todaro stated. “Whatever I have to offer I want to offer it, and I know the children will benefit from it.”

Gratitude and appreciation are two messages that Todaro especially enjoys teaching, as she believes in the value of a true “thank you.”

While balancing her new project with her flight attendant profession was difficult, Todaro made the most of the situation. While on layovers in New York, Todaro would spend hours in recording studios listening and creating songs that she could use to supplement the teachings of her pickle friends. Eventually the soundtrack for Miss Penelope’s Pickles’ was complete, and it was a large stepping stone into what would become something bigger than ever imagined.

When speaking of the soundtrack completion, Todaro states, “It gave me goosebumps to come to the fruition of something that started as a thought.”

Now as a retired flight attendant, Todaro has time to do live performances for children at the local elementary schools. While Todaro has no long-term goal, “the message hasn’t moved, I want little people to become good big people.”

With live performances, a soundtrack, and a coloring book under her belt, Todaro is soon to be airing a television show featuring her friends from the Pickle Patch.
