THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Beth Buzbee and her daughter, Kim Bellini, have a lot more in common than most mother-daughter duos.

They both attended Sam Houston State University and spent seven years teaching in the Conroe Independent School District. They both felt limited in the classroom and wanted to do more to help children reach their potential and to guide people of all ages to succeed in school, work and life.

Bellini and Buzbee are also both left-handed – and this year, they are inviting area residents to celebrate International Lefthanders Day on Aug. 13.

The pair co-owns The Woodlands LearningRx, a center that uses one-on-one brain training to build cognitive skills.

In honor of the day dedicated to fellow lefties, they will be offering discounted assessments during the month of August to anyone whose right side is not dominant. The brief test determines which cognitive skills need to be improved.

“People who are left-handed spend their entire lives adapting to tools designed for right-handed people,” Bellini said. “We want to honor and remind our lefty friends that they are among a revered group, including the likes of Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, Marie Curie, Albert Einstein, Benjamin Franklin, Henry Ford, Bill Gates and Paul McCartney.”

For Buzbee and Bellini, starting a business together was a logical step. They left their teaching careers in 2008 to co-found The Woodlands LearningRx.

While teaching in the public schools, Buzbee worked with a number of students who needed help outside the classroom. She recognized the benefits of starting an enterprise specifically designed to help students overcome learning challenges.

“We wanted to offer training to students, children and adults, who were not receiving the necessary tools to reach their potential,” Buzbee explained.

Since opening a local franchise of LearningRx, Bellini and Buzbee have seen steady growth in their business. The duo recently moved their office to a new location -- 10857 Kuykendahl Road, Suite 240 – in an effort to better serve their clients.

The two are confident that the testing and training techniques used at their center have been effective in helping all kinds of students overcome life-long learning challenges.

“It’s been so rewarding to help students build confidence and succeed in school and beyond,” Bellini said.

“We’re ready to tackle any challenge,” Buzbee added. “Together, we believe we can make a difference.”

Bellini and Buzbee invite area residents to stop by The Woodlands LearningRx at 10857 Kuykendahl Road, Suite 240 and learn how the center works to transform the ability to learn at a core, cognitive level.
