THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Throughout the year, the Montgomery County United Way proudly offers internship opportunities to college students in the community. This summer, Texas A&M student Olivia Brown, took advantage of an opportunity to work with the MCUW Investor Strategies team.

Olivia is native to The Woodlands where she attended The Woodlands High School and was a member of DECA, an international association of high school students interested in Business. Currently, she is majoring in Psychology with a minor in Business. Olivia was connected to the Montgomery County United Way through her former professor, Dr. Fiona Ross, at Lone Star College.

When asked what insights she gained during her time at MCUW, she talked about how she learned to effectively communicate in an office setting, work collaboratively on a team, and value hard work – things most good internships can provide. For Olivia, what made this internship an “invaluable” experience is not how the office operates on a daily basis or how the people in it function, it’s the content of what they do and why they do it. “The Montgomery County United Way is tackling education, personal finance, and health issues that affect all of us, and they’re doing it in a way that’s creating maximum community impact and positive change.”

Commenting on Ms. Brown’s presence this summer, Investor Strategies Team Member Kimberly Miller states, “Olivia is a lovely young woman. We have all benefitted from her impeccable work skills and ethics.” While Ms. Brown is considering a career in the not for profit business world when she graduates from A&M, she is determined to “make a difference” for her community in whatever field she chooses.

In Olivia’s own words, “I would like to thank the wonderful staff at MCUW for inspiring me every day to work hard and positively impact others. I also am extremely grateful to Julie Martineau and Nicole Robinson Gauthier for the opportunity to work in such a positive workplace and to promote a cause greater than myself. My experience interning at MCUW has been nothing but wonderful, and I wish this organization and all of the people in it the utmost success.”

The staff and volunteers at the Montgomery County United Way appreciate Olivia’s valuable contributions and wish her great success in all her future endeavors.
