SandwichesRule recommends: The Deluxe Egg Sandwich at The Egg & I

THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Ahh, breakfast...

For my money, it's the greatest word in the English language. Don't believe me? Pick another word that evokes a smile like breakfast...and the word "smile" doesn't count.

It's a magical word that conjures up a hundred different meanings for a hundred different people and the fact is, I can eat it anytime of the day.

When my wife suggested we try The Egg and I on a lazy Saturday morning, how could I say no?

On the outside, it's an unassuming place, carved into a nondescript-looking strip mall that looks like many others around Houston. It was busy when we got there but the wait was short...seems like plenty of tables to meet the demand. We could also see that the place is kid friendly too. This can be a blessing and a curse normally, but at breakfast, "everything is awesome" (thank you Lego Movie theme song!).

We sat down and when I opened the menu, I saw the usual breakfast favorites; with one notable exception: "Deluxe Egg Sandwich." Let's face it, I'm not @Sandwichesrule for nothing.

Dictionary definition of Deluxe: Particularly elegant and luxurious, or elaborate for its kind; of superior quality or refinement. Hmm, by the looks of my picture, I'd say they nailed it.

So, what goes into something called a Deluxe Egg Sandwich you ask? How about perfectly fried eggs, sliced ham, crisp bacon, fresh tomato, mayonnaise and Havarti dill cheese on sourdough bread.

You know, I don't think I've ever had mayo on a breakfast sandwich before...thought I'd tried every possible breakfast sandwich permutation, but it seems that the good cooks at The Egg and I may know more about the almighty breakfast sandwich than I do. Best, and most importantly, it was delicious. The sandwich also comes with a choice of ranch potatoes or grits. Not bad for only $9.29.
