CONROE, Texas - Assistance League of Montgomery County will celebrate providing new school clothing to its 50,000th student at the JC Penney store in Conroe, Tuesday, August 11, from 4:30 - 7:00 p.m.

Assistance League of Montgomery County back-to-school program has successful ring to it.

Operation School Bell® was formed in 1988, by the Assistance League.

"That first year we dressed 30 children and felt so proud," recalls the founding president, Betty Oswald.

The program is the largest of the chapter's ten philanthropic programs. It serves all Montgomery County school districts, offering schools the opportunity to refer students to Assistance League for special shopping events at area department stores. This year the Assistance League will hold 27 events in July and August, dressing an anticipated 3,000 students. Dr. Don Stockton, Superintendent of CISD schools, will be on hand at the August 11 dressing event to congratulate Assistance League members and to share in the celebration.

Assistance League of Montgomery County is a non-profit organization, staffed entirely by volunteers. It operates an upscale thrift shop which funds the chapter's programs. Visit the shop Tuesdays through Saturdays at 126 N. San Jacinto Street in Downtown Conroe.
