THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Brain training benefits individuals of all ages.

“A lot of people think that children are the only ones who need to build mental skills and brain power, but that’s simply not true,” Kim Bellini, owner and director of The Woodlands LearningRx, said. “Every day, in every aspect of life, we need to be able to process information, read, remember, think clearly and pay attention – no matter how old we are.”

She explained that the brain relies on foundational cognitive skills, which include long-term memory, short-term memory, visual processing, auditory processing, logic and reasoning, processing speed, and attention.

“When foundational skills are working together and working well, thinking, learning, reading, remembering, reasoning and paying attention are all easier,” Bellini said. “But if even one of these foundational cognitive skills is weak, it can make school, work and life a struggle.”

The Woodlands LearningRx brain-training programs strengthen weak skills and help individuals store and retrieve information more effectively.

For career adults, Bellini said, a finely tuned brain can give a competitive edge.

“Whether you’re looking to land your first job or your dream job, move up the career ladder or just do better in your current position, one-on-one brain training can significantly improve mental performance,” she said.

Brain training also helps senior adults, Bellini said. “Studies continue to suggest that, regardless of your age, there are things you can do to improve the way your brain grasps, remembers and accesses incoming information,” she said. “Our brain training exercises are fun and effective – and take advantage of neuroplasticity, which is the brain’s lifelong ability to change and grow.”

Cognitive skills training may be also be used to help individuals who have suffered traumatic brain injury.

“Adults with these injuries can experience difficulty concentrating, remembering and speaking,” Bellini said. “The way the brain processes visual information can also be compromised, as well as the brain’s effectiveness at logic and reasoning.”

She said that with brain training, skills can improve and make a significant impact on the daily life of someone with traumatic brain injury.

“The first step for anyone who wants to improve their mental prowess is to stop by our office for a cognitive skills assessment,” Bellini said. “At The Woodlands LearningRx, our trainers will then determine an individual training plan for you.”

She welcomes area residents to check out the center, located at 10857 Kuykendahl Road, Suite 240.
