SHENANDOAH, Texas — The Oak Ridge War Eagles had their first victory of their 2015 football season against Aldine High School 70-22.

Senior quarterback Brayden Letney was on top of his passing and running games and helped lead the team’s 48 point lead over the Mustangs.

“He’s a leader for us,” Oak Ridge Head Coach Dereck Rush said. “He’s a four year starter for us from that standpoint of things, and he did a great job as far as managing the game and also on the football. We had a few dropped passes, but that wasn’t his fault.”

Getting 70 points on the board wasn’t much of a concern or expectation for Rush. Instead, he said his focus was on correcting some key mistakes Oak Ridge made in their last game against Morton Ranch, where the War Eagles were defeated 21-14.

Rush said the main goal for the team this season is to move forward from good to great. He said the team’s biggest step towards that goal in their game against Aldine was their ability to score in the red zone, their lack of turnovers and their consistent momentum throughout the game.

“That’s one of the things we talk about to our kids as far as moving from good to great,” Rush said. “Great teams come out and they finish whether they’re 75 up or 75 down. They’re going to finish football games.”

Oak Ridge will play against Klein Forest 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 12 at Woodforest Stadium. The game will be live on Woodlands Online.
