AJ Sanders had a big 54-yard run in the first quarter of the game to put the Cavaliers on the board first. In the second quarter, Jordan Turnquest connected with a wide open Dominic Garcia in the endzone to tack another score on with 2:48 left in the half.

The Cavaliers started off with a strong defense, holding off Katy Taylor 14-0 until the last few seconds of the first half when Taylor got their first touchdown of the night.

“We played a good quarter and two-thirds. We’ve just got to finish offensively and defensively,” Head Coach Richard Carson said. “We’ve been ahead in ball games and we haven’t finished the deal. Defense played hard, but we’ve got to be smart. We’ve got to do the same things offensively and not just shoot ourselves in the foot.”

The second half started with Katy Taylor’s second and third touchdowns of the night, followed by a safety bringing them to a 23-14 lead over College Park. The Mustangs scored again in the last quarter, closing out the game.

“We’re disappointed. We’re disappointed we didn’t finish the deal when we were up, and we didn’t close it out,” Carson said. “We’ve been up three ball games and didn’t close it out. That’s my fault. I told those kids we’re a program built on character and responsibility. I’m going to figure out what I can do better, and they’re going to figure out what they need to do better, and we’re going to move on from this. The bottom line is we’re getting ready for the district ball games, and that’s what matters. We’re disappointed we didn’t win this one.”
