THE WOODLANDS, Texas - The John Cooper School is sponsoring informative and relevant presentations on topics relating to parenting adolescents and teenagers today. Members of the community are invited to attend "Culture of Kindness: Social Media and Bullying" on September 22 and "The Courage to Have Difficult Conversations" on October 21. Both presentations will begin at 7 p.m. in the school's Performing Arts Center.

At the September talk, national board certified and licensed professional counselor Brodie Simmons, from The Woodlands Behavioral Health and Wellness Center, will address the potential dangers of technology and how to responsibly navigate and foster healthy technology use. He says today's culture is seeing more cyber-bullying in adolescents, which can escalate quickly. Simmons will address how adolescents, their parents and all members of the community, can navigate the constant use of technology in responsible ways that manages their digital footprints, minimizes exposure to negative influences, and develops a healthy lifestyle.

A representative from Teen and Family Services-Woodlands campus will present a workshop in October that focuses on how to help students find the courage to question peer pressure and make smart decisions. Information about current alcohol and drug trends in The Woodlands area will be presented, and parents will be given ideas to encourage students to avoid being in an uncomfortable situation as a student.
