THE WOODLANDS, Texas - When The Counter on Market Street asked me to come in and review some of their new Fall Menu items, who was I to say no? I even got to bring a friend for a second opinion, so the review itself packs the combined power of two opinions. I already knew that The Counter is known for its burgers, but the Fall Menu offers some different choices that drew our attention: we started off with some Garlic Parmesan Corn.

Roasted garlic aioli can get a little messy. So be prepared. But for two self-admitted suckers for grilled corn on the cob, this was a great start and we devoured them like we hadn't eaten in days.

Next up we had their Southern Style Chicken Salad. Turns out, if you give a man fried chicken, bacon, avocado and tomato, he may argue with you that this is no salad, as my friend did with me. In his opinion, this was just a sandwich on a plate. My kind of salad.

But, when dealing with "SandwichesRule," I know what my readers are really interested in...so our sandwich of choice was the Southwestern Chicken served on a brioche-style bun. Folks, don't underestimate the importance of bread on a good sandwich. In this case, brioche -- one of my favorites -- really did the trick on this beauty.

It delivers its own taste-punch thanks to spicy jalapeño jack & fresh jalapeños. Add in slaw, as they do here, and you get extra points in my book. Through the month of September, The Counter will donate $1 to No Kid Hungry for each Southern Style Chicken Sandwich sold. That will provide 10 nutritious meals to children in need. Great Cause!

Last but certainly not least, dessert! They had us at Banana Cream Pie Shake and this gem delivers, garnished with whipped cream, vanilla wafer crumbles, and a vanilla wafer to top it off. Pretty sure they split ours into two. So save a little room. My friend is a dessert connoisseur and he gives the shake two thumbs up.

If you're in Market Street in The Woodlands and looking for a good lunch or dinner, you may want to give The Counter a try.
