THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Another milestone for The John Cooper School community took place on September 24, when the final beam of the Rock Math and Science Center was signed by trustees, donors, administrators, Middle/Upper School math and science faculty and construction workers, before being hoisted into place, as construction continues on the 50,000-square-foot, state-of- the-art teaching facility.

Following the iron beam being placed, a small evergreen tree with an American flag attached was added to complete the "Topping Out" tradition established by high-steel ironworkers. Although the project is not complete, the tradition signifies that the three-story structure has reached its maximum height. The last ceremony of its kind to be held on the Cooper campus was when the Glenn Performing Arts Center was constructed in 2007.

The Rock Math and Science Center has a target completion date of July, 2016, and will feature classrooms and laboratories for students in grades six through twelve, plus a computer lab, robotics classroom, forum classroom, outdoor roof garden and 135-seat lecture hall. Situated on 43 acres, The John Cooper School is a PK-12 independent school that was founded in 1988. The current enrollment is 1,202 students.
