The Woodlands Children's Museum Joins Stem Cause at Houston's Energy Day Festival

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS – Plans are in the works for the 5th Annual Energy Day Festival, a day of community fun and learning that brings together Houston’s industry leaders, educators, parents and thousands of students.

The event is slated for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, at Sam Houston Park, 1000 Bagby St. in downtown Houston – and will be hosted by the Consumer Energy Alliance and the Consumer Energy Education Foundation.

The Woodlands Children’s Museum will join in the fun and have its own tent at Energy Day, which is becoming one of Houston’s premiere family festivals – complete with live music, food, games and contests.

Visitors will explore vital state-of-the-art technologies, machines and skills needed to power the “Energy Revolution.” With 70 interactive exhibits and demonstrations from leading Houston companies, the day is designed to spark students’ interest in STEM-related studies.

Energy Day also highlights on-going advancements in energy and teaches festivalgoers about the various high-tech careers throughout the industry.

“Houston is the world’s ‘Energy Capital,’ leading the way in the industry,” Angela Colton, executive director of The Woodlands Children’s Museum, said. “This is a great way to celebrate the opportunities that are being created for our children’s futures.”

She explained that Energy Day connects kids of all ages with the classroom tools and real-world examples needed to succeed in energy careers.

As part of Energy Day’s educational mission, the Consumer Energy Alliance and Consumer Energy Education Foundation partner with more than 25 Houston-area academic groups to host the year-round Energy Day Academic Program, a series of nine citywide, energy-related competitions aimed to inspire students to consider careers in science and technology.

Since the program began in 2011, the Consumer Energy Alliance and Consumer Energy Education Foundation have provided almost $60,000 in financial awards to more than 300 students and teachers. This year, 123 students and teachers will receive more than $15,000 in awards at Energy Day 2015.
