Oak Ridge opened the game with a touchdown on the first play and by halftime solidified their lead 28-6 over the Tigers. The War Eagles came back in the second half with two touchdowns and two field goals, bringing them to their final score. While the team rejoiced in the victory, Head Coach Dereck Rush said he was glad to have played a clean game.

“It was great seeing the kids show effort and compete, and we were playing a clean football game, and that’s how we started the season,” Rush said. “We had it together tonight as far as having a clean football game.”

Oak Ridge starting quarterback, Braden Letney, was injured in the first quarter against Kingwood’s game last week and returned to the field fully recovered for their game against Conroe. The team was excited to have Letney back, but overall, Rush said, the win belonged to the entire team.

“Braden did a good job tonight as far as managing the game and taking what the defense gave him. Overall it was a team effort,” Rush said. “Offensive line did a great job, running backs ran the ball well, receivers caught the ball well and defense played well, so overall as far as the guys playing a clean football game, they did that. We’ve just got to continue to get better. We made a lot of mistakes tonight, but we’re going to go back to the drawing room on Monday and get ready.”

The War Eagles will face an undefeated Atascocita for their homecoming game at Woodforest Bank Stadium Saturday, October 10 at 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on Woodlands Online.
