Commended Students are recognized for their exceptional academic promise because they placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2016 competition by taking the 2014 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

"These young men and women haven been named Commended Students for having demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success," said a NMSC representative. "These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation."

Established in 1988, The John Cooper School is a PK through Grade 12 college preparatory, independent school. Current enrollment is 1,202 students.
