Houston Methodist The Woodlands Breast Care Center physician meet & greet on Oct. 20

THE WOODLANDS, Texas — Houston Methodist The Woodlands Breast Care Center and its Medical Staff Leadership will host a Physician Meet and Greet on Tuesday, Oct. 20, to introduce Dr. Madga Ghobashy and Dr. Loren Rourke to The Woodlands community. The event will take place from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Main Street America, 18750 Interstate 45, Houston, Texas 77373.

Ghobashy, a breast radiologist, has been selected to be the Medical Director at the Houston Methodist The Woodlands Breast Care Center. Rourke, a breast surgical oncologist, will be the Houston Methodist Regional Breast Program Director. Both will have offices in the new The Woodlands Medical Office Building, scheduled to open in early 2016, and privileges at The Woodlands Hospital, as well as all the hospitals in the Houston Methodist Health System, when it opens in 2017.

Ghobashy is eager for the Breast Care Center to open, and is especially excited about the 3-D tomosynthesis mammography equipment. “It will enable us to look at a single, thin layer of breast tissue at a time and detect smaller amounts of breast cancer,” she said. “I prefer to work one-on-one with my patients and educate them on the importance of mammograms and early detection. With 3-D tomosynthesis, we can do just that.”

Rourke says her goal is for every patient to receive exceptional care in an informative and compassionate environment, something the Houston Methodist Health System is well known for. “A diagnosis of cancer can be frightening,” said Rourke. “I want my patients not to worry about whether they are getting the best care possible, which they will be at Houston Methodist, but to focus on what’s happening and why. The more they know and participate, the more control they regain.”

A special speaker during the presentation portion of the evening will be a breast cancer survivor, followed by Ghobashy and Rourke giving a joint talk on the importance of early detection and the services offered through the Breast Care Center. Guests will be encouraged to mingle with the doctors during the reception and ask questions. In addition, guests will also have the opportunity to learn more about Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital and the Breast Care Center services, including the 3-D tomosynthesis mammography equipment.
