The War Eagles maintained a one-point lead throughout the first half until Atascocita pulled ahead toward the end of the second quarter with two touchdowns and a field goal, bringing the halftime score to 30-21.

The third quarter was a slow one with neither team pulling through to the end zone, but in the final quarter of the game, both teams picked up their pace and made several big plays with Oak Ridge down three offensive linemen.

“We had a lot of positives,” Head Coach Dereck Rush said. “We didn’t make the plays we needed to make at the right time. Overall the kids competed from that standpoint of things, but we didn’t make it.”

Rush said his team would take all of the big plays the offense made against Atascocita and bring them to their next game when they play the College Park Cavaliers.

It was definitely a battle of offenses between the two teams, with Braden Letney having a big game, as well as Lamar Handy and Kyle Townsend who both contributed to Oak Ridge scores, as well as Marcellos Sparks, who ran a kickoff all the way back for an Oak Ridge touchdown.

The Oak Ridge War Eagles will play at Woodforest as the away team against College Park Friday, October 16 at 7 p.m.
