THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Literary lovers will embrace the ghost of Emily Dickinson at a 20th annual birthday celebration in her honor at Lone Star College-Montgomery on Thursday, December 10, at 7 p.m., in the Health Science Center (Building B), room 102. This event, which is part of the Writers in Performance series, is free and open to the public.

Dr. Cristanne Miller, Edward H. Butler professor of literature from the State University of New York (SUNY), University at Buffalo, will lead a panel of Dickinson scholars, including Texas A&M University English professor Dr. Janet McCann, to share their extensive knowledge of one of America’s most important poets.

Dr. Miller, a SUNY distinguished professor and the chair of the English department at the University at Buffalo SUNY, has written extensively on 19th and early 20th century poetry and on poetry of the American Civil War.

Her work on Dickinson includes Emily Dickinson: A Poet’s Grammar, Comic Power in Emily Dickinson (co-authored with Suzanne Juhasz and Martha Nell Smith), The Emily Dickinson Handbook (co-edited with Grudrun Grabher and Roland Hagenbuchle), and Reading in Time: Emily Dickinson in the Nineteenth Century. She is currently preparing a new edition of Dickinson’s complete poems for Harvard University Press.

Dr. Miller received her Ph.D. from the University of Chicago and has served as the president of the Emily Dickinson International Society.
