THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Today, the Montgomery County chapter of American Cancer Society (ACS) is putting out a call to businesses, organizations, churches and individuals to take part in the “#GivingTuesday” initiative, an international program that promotes the society through a combination of social media postings and tangible donations.

Local businesses are encouraged use social media to support cancer awareness

Now in its fourth year, #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Observed on the first day after Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving. The program, which started in 2012, currently has 30,000 partners in 69 countries.

Those who choose ACS as the beneficiary of their giving will be able to reap the rewards well into next year. “As we begin to launch into preparations for our upcoming Couture for the Cause gala in the spring, we want to start increasing awareness now of all the wonderful programs and services ACS provides for millions of cancer battlers and survivors,” said Leigha Hughes, gala ACS staff partner and Development Manager, Distinguished Events for American Cancer Society.

“Let all of your social media followers know that you intend to give to American Cancer Society on Giving Tuesday on December 1, and why, and encourage them to do the same,” Hughes said. “When you hashtag #GivingTuesday on your posts and tweets, also be sure to hashtag #MakeCancerLastSeason, supporting Couture for the Cause and include the link to donate for the cause, https://acshph.ejoinme.org/2016MontgomeryCoCoutureCauseDonate.”
