The Westin The Woodlands announces Dana Denton as Director of Catering and Conference Services

THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Dana Denton brings three decades of experience to her new role as Director of Catering and Conference Services for The Westin The Woodlands. In this capacity, she works with a dynamic sales and operational team dedicated to producing and executing creative, memorable events of the highest caliber, which will showcase the soon-to-open property’s 15,000 square feet of premier function space, as well as outdoor, waterfront terraces.

Denton, who has been based in The Woodlands since 1984, was most recently the Senior Sales Manager for The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel & Convention Center. Joining in 2002, she was responsible for a variety of promotional events, several major annual public tradeshows, weddings and bridal packages, plus local social catering, a category where the property consistently ranked in the top 5 among Marriott’s North American portfolio. While on staff, Denton earned recognitions including Marriott Pinnacle Golden Circle Achiever five times, Marriott President’s Circle Achiever two times and Manager of the Quarter two times.

Before that, Denton served as the Group Sales Manager and later the Catering Sales Manager for The Woodlands Resort and Conference Center, focusing on corporate dining, charity galas and pharmaceutical and energy corporate and association groups.

Denton began her hospitality career with the Greater Houston Convention & Visitors Bureau in 1986, eventually earning the position of Senior Convention Sales Manager, which she held until 1998. During this time, she coordinated exhibits for the GHCVB and represented the City of Houston, George R. Brown Convention Center and Reliant Center for citywide convention and conferences ranging from the Offshore Technology Conference to the International Quilt Festival.

Denton has been a member of the National Association of Catering Executives Houston Chapter for nine years, Executive Women’s Alliance –mentoring at-risk young women at Conroe High School – for 10 years and Grogan’s Mill Village Association for 18 years, currently serving as President for a fourth term. Additionally, this is her 8th year as Chair of The Woodlands Farmer’s Market, which she helped to establish, and is fulfilling her 16th year teaching Sunday school for pre-school children at Faithbridge United Methodist Church.
