THE WOODLANDS, Texas — After falling to their rival at The Woodlands High School last week, the College Park Cavaliers made a comeback and defeated the Oak Ridge War Eagles 65-50 and won their first game of the district season.

Cavalier sophomore guard Quentin Grimes carried the team through a slow first half and held the War Eagles down to only six points by the end of the first quarter. A three-point shot by College Park’s McKinley Green put the Cavaliers ahead 28-22 at halftime.

The Cavs returned to the second half with an even stronger defense, widening the score gap by 13 points at the end of the third quarter. Big plays by McKinley Green and Dax DeBoer helped College Park solidify their 65-50 victory over the War Eagles.

College Park head coach Clifton McNeely said his team stepped onto the court with the goal to contain Oak Ridge’s key player, Darius Love. He was pleased to see his team improve their defensive game and rebounding from last week’s match-up against The Woodlands.

“Obviously we did a much better job on rebounding tonight unlike we did on Friday, but our kids played really well,” McNeely said. “Quentin really stepped up for us in the first half where we were sluggish offensively and got us going, but I thought McKinley Green and Dax de Boer, two of our seniors really had great nights tonight and really stepped it up and gave us the leadership that we needed to get over the hump tonight.”

College Park will play their next game at Summer Creek High School Friday, January 15 at 7 p.m.
