MW Cleaners washes 50 blankets to donate to families in need, crisis

AUSTIN, Texas – Spotted Around Town: MW Cleaners out picking up afghans for Austin residents in need. It all started when an unnamed donor phoned the Travis County Health and Human Services with a simple request—he had 75 handmade afghans, and nothing to do with them. He wanted to donate them to those who needed help this winter.

This came at the perfect time for director Azure Hobbes, who had just announced she would be organizing a blanket drive, but had not begun the process. She contacted four dry cleaning operations, and MW Cleaners responded to the call.

Two representatives from MW Cleaners, Austin Vice President Mat Styer and Valet Manager Lance Stubbert, picked up the 50 blankets from the facility. Over the next week, MW Cleaners will be cleaning them for free at their Austin locations. They will then be donated to families in need or in crisis through the center located at 100 North 1-35 in Austin.
