THE WOODLANDS, Texas — The University Interscholastic League (UIL) just announced the tentative 2016-2017 and 2016-2018 football and basketball district assignments and reclassifications.

At the 6A and 5A levels, the competition is always going to be good competition.

Now classified as District 12-6A, Conroe, Oak Ridge, College Park and The Woodlands High Schools are slotted to compete against Montgomery, Beaumont West Brook and Lufkin. Lufkin just moved up from 5A.

Caney Creek High School kept its 5A classification, but is now assigned to face Crosby, Dayton, Humble, Kingwood Park, Barbers Hill, New Caney, Porter and Splendora High Schools.

Conroe ISD Athletic Director, Danny Long, said that the realignment for Conroe ISD’s 6A schools came as somewhat of a surprise.

“At the 6A and 5A levels, the competition is always going to be good competition,” Long said. “The surprise was Beaumont, honestly. I knew Lufkin and Montgomery are naturals because there’s no place to put Lufkin. West Brook coming north instead of straight down I-10 is different, but they’ll just come straight down 105, so that was the only real surprise.”

All other sports assignments and reclassifications will be announced no later than Friday, April 15, 2016.
