THE WOODLANDS, Texas — Lower school students at The Woodlands Christian Academy are experimenting with 3-D printing in their art classes. Art teacher, Mrs. Susan Peterson, is excited to integrate this new technology in her classroom.

Students will work collaboratively on their computers to design objects that will then be printed in 3-D. “I can get students thinking in 3-D in another medium, almost like architecture. They will be able to look at an object from all sides which will lead to more creative problem solving skills.”

The 3-D printers were purchased with donations, to the school’s Annual Fund, designated for STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) materials in the classrooms. 3-D printers are being placed in art classrooms, middle school science classrooms and high school computer classrooms. Students across campus will be combining computer skills with science, for example; to create molecular models in chemistry or build a bridge in physics. Robotics classes will be able to produce parts for robots. The installation of the 3-D printers and other new STEM materials has created a world of new learning opportunities for students at Woodlands Christian.
