Memorial Hermann's 'In the Pink of Health' to support local women's health initiatives

THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Memorial Hermann’s In The Pink of Health, established to raise funds to reduce the incidence of breast and ovarian cancer and assist survivors in their journey, today announced 2015 net proceeds of $675,000.

“We are thrilled to have raised a record-setting $675,000, which will provide resources, treatment and support to overcome breast and ovarian cancer in our community, and support all survivors along their journey through Canopy, a Cancer Survivorship Center at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital scheduled to open this spring,” said In the Pink of Health co-chairs Andrea Alexander and Karey Miller Bancroft. “Our donors are so incredibly supportive of In the Pink of Health’s mission and they can trust that their donations will impact thousands of women and their families.”

The funds will directly support local organizations that are dedicated to cancer survivorship and women’s health issues including breast and ovarian cancer. The major beneficiaries of the 2015 funds include:

· Cancer Survivorship: $400,000 to support Canopy, a cancer survivorship center affiliated with Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital that offers a variety of classes and support groups for all cancer survivors.

· Interfaith Community Clinic: $55,000 to fund underserved women and support education and outreach.

· Judy’s Mission Ovarian Cancer Foundation: $11,000 to assist in their mission to increase awareness of ovarian cancer in Montgomery County.

· The Rose: $50,000 to provide access to screening, diagnostics and treatment services to any woman regardless of her ability to pay.

· The Breast Center at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands: $40,000 to support educational services provided to newly diagnosed patients and radiant wraps for women who are undergoing treatment, among other things.

“We are so grateful for our partnership with In the Pink of Health that began when the organization added a focus on ovarian cancer to its mission,” said Aimee Friend, Executive Director of Judy’s Mission Ovarian Cancer Foundation. “The In the Pink of Health funds will allow us to create a campaign to increase awareness and understanding about the risk factors, signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer. Through this program, we will be able to reach thousands of women in Montgomery County to educate and inform them about a disease that is difficult to detect and often misdiagnosed.”

Founded in 2001, In the Pink of Health has raised over $4 million. The 16th Annual In the Pink of Health Luncheon is scheduled to take place on October 14, 2016, at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott & Convention Center.
