Sandwich of the Month: A Reuben with a View

THE WOODLANDS, Texas — When my parents visited last Spring from Florida we had lunch at Jasper's and my mom, who I consider to be something of a Reuben aficionado, really enjoyed hers. As a result, I've been meaning to try it ever since. So, since I was heading to Market Street to window shop anyway, and I think a beautiful day in The Woodlands demands outdoor dining, Jasper's seemed like the perfect choice to compliment my outing while satisfying my craving for a Rueben.

My sandwich today was the formidable Rotisserie Corned Beef Rueben, topped with artisan Apple sauerkraut & Russian dressing. Sorry...my picture doesn't do it justice (#picturefail?). Unfortunately it was a little too early for a drink but I know that a cold Guinness would have gone perfect with this sandwich.

The sandwich itself will definitely fill you up but I have to confess that the fries weren't exactly right out of the fryer. Even the best places have a last batch of fries that someone has to get served up so it seems today was my day...no worries, the Rueben was enough to overcome any disappointment with the sides.

Truth of the matter is that I only recently discovered my taste for sauerkraut — had no idea what I was missing but I knew right away that the artisan apple sauerkraut on this beauty was a winner. The corned beef was nicely cooked and the marble rye was fresh. As you all know about me, I'm a firm believer in the bread — if it isn't good, the sandwich doesn't have a chance.

All in all, Jasper's hit the spot, so if you're in Market Street and are craving a Reuben, give them a try and let me know what you think.
