THE WOODLANDS, Texas – On April 9, 2016, The Woodlands Township Environmental Services Department hosted its annual GreenUp event to join the statewide effort to keep Texas beautiful in the Don’t Mess with Texas Trash-Off, the signature event for the Great American Cleanup.

Almost 900 volunteers joined together at various parks throughout The Woodlands to help keep the community free of litter. “It always amazes me how the residents of this community come together to help make The Woodlands such a special place,” said Kathie Herrick, environmental services coordinator for The Woodlands Township. “Each year, the participation grows and the event becomes more popular. We are so thankful to all those who volunteer their time to such a worthy cause.”

The annual GreenUp celebration concluded at Northshore Park after the cleanup with entertainment that included a presentation by Jack Golden, the comical performing arts personality who helps children learn the importance of the environment. Juggling clowns on stilts also added to the festivities, and those who participated in the Trash-Off cleanup were rewarded with free pizza, beverages and a red Texas Trash-Off T-shirt.

Those interested in maintaining a trash-free community on a regular basis are also encouraged to join the Adopt-a-Path program. This program is great for groups, families and organizations to be good stewards of the natural surroundings of the community. Signage recognizing the efforts of the group will also be placed in the adopted area. Information on the Adopt-a-Path program can be found on the Township website.

The Woodlands Township thanks all those who participated in keeping The Woodlands a clean, trash-free community for all to enjoy. For more information on the environmental efforts of the Township, please call 281-210-3800 or visit www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/environmentalservices.
